How flooring quotes work in the UK

A flooring quote has two parts: the price of the material per square metre, and the cost of fitting. Material prices vary widely — budget carpet starts near £8/m² while engineered wood can exceed £70/m². Fitting is usually charged per square metre or as a day rate, and adds anywhere from £5/m² for straightforward vinyl up to £30/m² for patterned tile work.

Accurate quotes depend on three measurements: the floor area in square metres, the type of subfloor, and any preparation needed such as removing old flooring or levelling. A company that quotes without these details is estimating, not pricing.
