Sheet vinyl comes in rolls, usually 2m, 3m or 4m wide, and is cut to fit your room with an allowance for trimming against walls. Plank and tile vinyl is sold by the pack, each covering a stated number of square metres. Either way, you buy more than the bare floor area to cover trimming, pattern matching and a few spare pieces for future repairs. This calculator adds a 10% wastage allowance, which is typical for vinyl.
A smooth, level subfloor is essential under vinyl, so remember that preparation may be a separate cost on top of the material and fitting shown here.
Around 10% suits most rooms. Patterned sheet vinyl that needs matching, or rooms with many cuts around units, can need a little more.

Yes. The area and wastage apply to both. Plank vinyl is sold by the pack, so round up to whole packs when ordering.
